Our property is 100% non-smoking to ensure a pleasant environment for all our guests.

The Cobbler Suite

The Cobbler Suite dates back to the 1840’s, and was once home to Friedrick Kraemer’s cobbler shop. The 232 square foot Cobbler Suite preserves the feel of a traditional 19th century German home with its inside window shutters and original brickwork around the fireplace. With a private entrance off the street, a queen sized bed, and a seasonally available gas fireplace, the Cobbler Suite is as comfortable as it is historic. Other convenient amenities include a ceiling fan, central heat and air conditioning, a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, small ironing board, and a 19-inch TV. Please keep in mind that the Cobbler Suite is only suitable for one couple, and we don’t allow babies, children, or pets to stay with us. In order to maintain a clean and pleasant environment for our guests, our property is 100% non-smoking.

History of the Property

In 1840, J.B. Idermann began construction on the property with a half-timber building with brick nogging. In 1858 the building was purchased by John Quant Jr. who added a brick floor under the 1840 building with an adjoining frame addition.

The house was also owned by shoe cobbler Friedrich Kraemer, who set up his shop in what is now called the Cobbler Suite.

Shared Area

Feel free to use the back patio during your stay with us. Situated next to the old smoke house and surrounded by a beautiful rock and flower garden. Welcome the morning with a cup of coffee or relax with a glass of wine under the stars. Whether you’re reading a book, relaxing, or just visiting you’re likely to share this area with birds and butterflies. A local church chimes songs each day at 7am and 7pm, adding the serenity of this hidden backyard.

The Garden

As you visit the garden, you’ll notice Nancy’s extensive geode and fossil collection. Nancy has been hunting and collecting rocks from an early age, and she continues to hunt to this day. Feel free to wander the garden and admire her collection, just remember to look and not touch. These geodes tend to be sharp, and could cut you. Most of these quartz geodes come from the Keokuk Iowa area.
